ARTIST STATEMENT

I am LE BohemianMuse, a Ghanaian-American, Bay Area-based abstract painter and colorist. My practice is rooted in exploring the emotional and transformative power of color. Through large-scale paintings, I create spaces where pigment becomes language, gesture becomes voice, and abstraction becomes a mirror for human experience.

My work begins with a simple truth: color carries memory, feeling, and transformation. I paint as a way of holding and releasing these states—layering gesture, rhythm, and intuition until the work itself feels alive. My canvases are not depictions of things, but experiences of color: joy and grief, play and rebellion, stillness, and momentum.

The Color Held Me extends this practice into an immersive environment. Rather than standing before a canvas, viewers are invited to step into a space where painting surrounds them—three walls alive with movement, pigment, and gesture. The installation is designed as a sanctuary of abstraction, where color itself becomes architecture and emotion takes physical form.

To experience the work, begin by stepping onto the black rug at the center of the alcove. Pause and look down, grounding yourself in the moment. Then choose to turn right or left. Follow the paintings in either a clockwise or counterclockwise path, allowing your eye and body to move with the rhythm of brushstrokes and shifts in palette. The experience is circular, like memory—there is no beginning or end, only movement, return, and reflection.

In this way, the installation becomes not only something to see, but a choreography of attention: an invitation to let color hold you, as it has held me.

LE BohemianMuse is a force of creativity, a first-generation Ghanaian-American artist whose work defies boundaries and ignites the imagination. Through a vibrant practice that spans abstract painting, murals, filmmaking, writing, and performance, LE crafts immersive, color-driven experiences that explore our shared human story. Her art is a bold celebration of play and resilience, inviting us to see the world not just as it is, but as a space of endless possibility.

LE's creative journey began with a deep-seated fascination for building new worlds. After earning her B.A. in Theater Arts with a minor in Studio Arts from Loyola Marymount University, she honed her understanding of narrative at the prestigious British American Drama Academy (BADA) in Oxford, England. This foundation in performance and storytelling laid the groundwork for a multidisciplinary practice that is as dynamic as it is captivating.

From her solo shows, including Renegade Renaissance (2020) and Genesis (2021), to her impactful murals with collaborative duo Bella Donna Artiste, LE's work has made a significant mark on the art world. Her pieces, featured in galleries across the United States like Artspace Warehouse Gallery, captivate viewers with their vibrant energy. Her public art, commissioned by organizations such as the Civic Joy Fund and the Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, has transformed urban spaces, bringing joy and color to the community.

Beyond the canvas, LE is a dedicated community builder. In 2025, she launched Muse Reverie Atelier, a creative studio designed to foster artistry through coaching, intimate Art Dinners, and her LE Creative Hour blog. This initiative embodies her philosophy: that art is a powerful lifeline for connection and imagination. Currently pursuing her MFA at the California College of the Arts, LE continues to expand her interdisciplinary practice, solidifying her role as a cultural organizer and a guiding force for creative expression. For LE, art is more than just a practice; it is a compass guiding us toward a more connected, vibrant world.
